Get mad, run well ?
SO have you ever had those runs where you are so mad about something that when you go running you find yourself flying along ? I have many times before and today was one of those days. I went down to the lakes for a easy run on the dirt cow track trails that run along the paved paths along the lakes. Well that lasted like all of 10 mins. then it was off to the races. It was a nice day for a run with temps in the mid 50's. I had my ipod a cranking and then the legs followed. I guess it all worked out since I felt good the whole way. I knocked out a solid 7 mile tempo run !! Funny how things can vary so much day to day.

Ugg
Man I know this is how it goes in life as a runner with some days good and others not so good, but this is getting old. I went out with not the best attitude and all so I am sure that has something to do with it. I just never felt good. I tried to slow down and is how that goes but it did no good. I guess I can at least say I made it 5 days in a row now. Is that good ? Still Lot's of work to do before Trail Mix 50k.
Someday I will get back

Man is Mom fast
I do not think there is many things much better than getting out for a run with Evan and Sonya these days. It is so nice that the weather is getting nice enough that we can bring Evan with us in the baby jogger. He seems to really like it allot, which is good considering that his Mom and Dad like running so much. Today we went out with Sonya for her warm up then ran together while she went flying off to meet up with us about 5 miles later when she was ready for the cool down. As Sonya took off the look in Evan's eyes was "man Dad is Mom fast" ! I would agree with Evan. I think she looks like someone ready to rip in a few weeks. It's like 10 days to go ! I felt pretty good running with Evan the whole time. I believe we got in like 8 miles or so. Not bad, I will take what I can get.

The lakes !!
So on the run today with Greg you would have thought it was like mid summer outside. There was so many people out at the lakes it was hard to run at times. Do not get me wrong it is good to have people out side, but it was crazy !! I could tell I was having a hard time in the crazy heat. It was like 85 out today. Running out 7 mile loop at like 7 min miles was pretty hard work. Looks better for tomorrows high temp. It much better upper 50's. Yea !!

No shirt ?
I went running today for my long run with Nick. We decided to run from Nick's house after he called me early in the morning. I thought since I did not talk to him I was going to me on my own with the ipod for company. Glad I was wrong. It was a warm one out. I think it got up to like 75 today !! That is warm for this time of year. SO warm that I even took my shirt off for the last few miles. It is weird to be running with not shirt and ice still on the lakes next to you. It was a great 15+ mile loop we did. Man did I chafe like a crazy person. I need more body glide soon.

Running with the boys
Today was great !! It was the first time my best friend Steve and his 9 month old son Charlie and Me and my 8 month old son Evan went for a baby jogger run together. It was so so cool !! The boys slept through most of it. We went for a easy 9+ miles on the bike trails by Steve's house. After the boys spent some time playing together. It was special. Steve and I have been best friends for like 23 years now and Steve was the one to get me to start cross country running. So it was fitting.

ZERO
Man I tell you taking these zero days is hard. I know it will be for the best as I try to heal my sore ribs, but it is still hard. I am running tomorrow I think with Steve. Should be fun.
Sonya
Today's run was looking like it was going to be just a short un-inspired run by myself. But at the last Minute Sonya came to the rescue. She called and said she was close to home and could join me. Yea !!! We ran a loop out around Lake Nakomis and back for a easy 9 miles. I was so happy to have her with me. It makes things so much better when I can run with her or my friends. What might be a 5-6 mile run always become a 9-10 with them. Thanks !!

Thinking Kimba
I went out today for my run from my parents house after work. They where watching Evan for us today. As I went out with my ipod a playing I thought to myself to think of the guys on www.chasingkimba.com and run on feel. Those guys are so much fun to watch. I was not sure how far I would be able to run with my rib and all. I was just going to play it by ear. So my rib was feeling pretty good early on so I figured I would try to pick up the pace some. I felt so smooth and good out there. I was floating over the hills. When I got back home it had been like 10 miles at just under 7 min pace ave. Not bad maybe I am getting somewhere ?

She Does It !!
After many years of trying my wife Sonya Broke 30 mins at the St Pats "Human Race" 8k today. She was 5th overall in 29:46 at the MN 8k championships ! As I have said before on the blog she is training for the USA 100k road championships. I guess she did not loose any speed huh. I am so so proud of her.
As for me I decided to take the day off. It suck to take so many days off but I think this might help my rib heel faster ?

Thought I would give it a try
So I meet Nick this morning for a early 9 mile run. I felt pretty good but it was still sore. Maybe take tomarrow off and see what happens.
Friday, March 16, 2007
I hope this helps
So I have desided to take the last two days off to see what happens with my rib. It still hurts some but I do not know if this is the best idea. We will see.

This Sucks
So this whole cracked rib stuff sucks ! It is the most frustrating thing in the world because there is nothing you can do about it. I keep going back in forth about if I should run or take time off and see if it feels better. I went out today for a easy 5 miles but it was aching every step of the way.

Spring is here !!
Ok so I think it might be safe to say that spring is here !! What a day in MN. We set a record high of 62 degrees. I got out this morning with Sonya and Evan in the baby jogger. That kid better be ready for many runs with Mom and Dad. He seems to like it very much. I felt much better today. I got in a solid 7+ miles today. Sonya and Evan got in a extra 3 miles after Dad turned off to get ready for work. So we will see what life brings me in the future. I am feeling better day by day. I was looking today at who was all signed up for the USA 100k champs that Sonya is running April 7th. Boy is that mens race looking good. There are like 6-7 guys who can win it. Good luck to all.

Home run !!
So today was long run day. We desided to do a 10.5 mile loop down at the lakes. That way we could get to new water bottles and gel every so offten. I figured this would be a good idea. When we started I went off with Steve at a tad bit faster pace than Sonya, Tracy and Joelle. I was feeling like it was a bit to fast but I could not seem to slow to much. I was feeling pretty good except for by bathroom stops every 45 min's or so. Many what a pain in the butt !! After 20 miles It was down to Sonya and me. It was going to be nice to run the last 10 or so with her. But low and behold our friend Ward swung by for a few miles. So all in all it was a super nice day out !! Warm running with our friends, and good feelings about how we stood for our upcomming races. I tell you Sonya will be so ready come April 7th for the 100k. If I can keep this building I should be ok as well for Trail Mix 50k on April 21st. So all in all nice day. We got in 31 miles !!! and my rib was not to bad.

Tired
So after a long day of work today I decided I needed to get in a few miles. I knew that tomarrow will be a big day so I kept it simple. I went to my normal place down by the lakes. It was super nice like 50 out. So the lakes where packed with people. I was feeling ok but real slow. I just went a simple 5 miles. Man I do not know how I am going to go long tomarrow ?

pretty good
So today I went for a run from the store. It was a nice run because I got to run with a mix of people. I started off with my wife Sonya. I always love running with her so much so it was a great way to start off. We ran for about 3 miles till I met up with Nick and Greg. Sonya felt like going her own way so I joined up with these guys to finish of the run. It was super nice out, like 40 degree or so !! We did a nice 6 mile loop which brought me back to the store. I felt good. Ribs where ok, not great but ok. After the run We went to see the James Bond movie " Casino Royal ". It was great !!! Different from past Bond movies but good.
Great time of the year

Time with friends
As many runners will find over time, not only is it great to run alone. But it is so great to share a run with friends. I am so lucky to have the great friends that I do. Today was just one more reminder of that. After I got off work I waited till my good friend Nick to get off work so we could run. Nick lives close by so often we will meet between our homes at the Lake Harriet band shell. So last night when I met Nick the first thing he said was " I am surprised you wanted to wait so long to run ". I quickly told him it was going to be well worth it. As we began to run around the lake and head toward his house I felt great and was glad to be getting in a nice 9 mile run. After Nick turned off I began to make my way home. It was then I was reminded how lucky i am to have my friends and that nothing is better than running with them. Thanks everyone !!
What a pain
Man everyday that goes by I am more bugged by this darn rib injury. It is a drag because you do not know if it will take longer to get better the more you push through the pain. It was real sore today all day so I am taking the day off. Bummer man !!!

Not bad
Got out today for a nice 6 mile run from work. I was a little tired and my rib was hurting more today. I guess I should not complain.

Longer than I thought
So I went into this run with the idea of let try to go as far as my rib would let me. I met up at Lake Calhoon with Sonya, Steve and Nick. I was not to bad of a morning. It was a little cold but we new it would be getting warmer as the day went on. The idea was to go 20 miles. We decided to run toward Lake of the Isles and to the river road cutting threw downtown. That part was nice, it had been a while since I ran threw that part of town. From there it was up the river road past the U of M to the midtown greenway. Up till this part i was feeling pretty good. Once on the greenway it was a straight shot back to Lake Calhoon. Sonya was not feeling good and had asked Steve and I to go ahead and she would get us at the van. Well as Steve and I got closer I thought I would go back and run Sonya in. So I ran, and ran, and ran. I never saw Sonya. At that point I knew she took a different way back. So now I had to turn around and run all the way back. I was a bit pissed but as I got closer I looked at it as I was forced to get in a extra 4 miles or so. I would have never done that on my own on that day. So heck ribs not to bad and a 24+ mile run !!! Not a bad day.

Take what I can get
So on Saturday afternoon I decided to go out and test my rib and see if it was getting better. I am supposed to go long on Sunday with Sonya. Well the test was so so. I went for a easy 5 miler. It was not super bad, but I could feel it pretty good. I think I need to take some ibuprofen before Sundays 20 miler. Man was it pretty down on the parkway today with all the snow.

It's a no go
Thursday, March 1, 2007
No !!!
Just when I felt like it might be coming around I was done in by my ipod, go figure. When I went out for my run today after work it was snowing like crazy out. Now I like to run in the snow so I was pretty excited. I think I have said before how I like to run with my ipod. So when I went out yesterday I decided to put my ipod in the inner front pocket of my Montrail team jacket instead of my normal waist pack. Now running down to the lake was not to bad but there was lot's of snow so I was really looking for car's with the crazy weather. I would be safe once I made it to the lake. Just 4 blocks from the lake I saw a car to my left so I made note of where it was. Just then I hit some ice and BAMMMM on was face down on the road. I felt ok but man my chest hurt from the ipod. I thought thank god it did not break. I kept running. But as the run kept going I could tell my breathing was harder. The closer I got to home the more my chest hurt. Now it is the day after and man I think I might have cracked a rib or at least badly bruised them. This sucks !!!! I guess I know no never to wear my ipod there huh.
